What students practise

Students hear a short phrase and pick the line that matches its shape. It starts with three pentatonic notes and ends with the full diatonic scale, where the steps are close and easy to mix up.

Using it in class

Useful before melodic dictation, because students need to hear whether a melody goes up, down or stays the same before they can name the notes. Have them trace the shape in the air with their hand first.
